GERB defends mixed voting
Mixed voting is a proven method that should be preserved for the upcoming elections. This was stated by Stefan Arsov from GERB in the corridors of parliament, emphasizing the party's firm stance against the ideas for change introduced by "Progressive Bulgaria".
"The mixed voting format works and we believe it is a good form for conducting future elections," commented Arsov.
Conflict over changes to the Electoral Code
Arsov recalled that the current ruling party, "Progressive Bulgaria", came to power precisely under the current conditions – a combination of paper ballots and machine voting. According to him, opening the Electoral Code at this moment should not be a main priority for the legislative power.
Main points of contention:
- Vote analysis: GERB plans to submit inquiries to the MFA and the CEC to prove the proportional use of paper and machine voting (50/50).
- "Abroad" electoral district: "Progressive Bulgaria" insists on its abolition, as well as the removal of the 20-polling station limit in countries outside the EU.
- Position of Krasimir Terziev: The MP emphasized that an in-depth analysis by the MFA is still pending before a decision is made regarding changes to the quotas for polling stations outside the EU.
The proposals of "Progressive Bulgaria", presented by Petar Vitanov, aim at the full restoration of machine voting according to the 2021 model and substantial reforms in electoral geography, which is emerging as the next hot debate in the National Assembly.
