The Municipal Council in Karnobat voted unanimously to approve a budget of over 34 million euros for 2026. The decision was made during the local authority's regular meeting held today.

The adopted financial framework exceeds that of 2025 by nearly 4.5 million euros. A portion of the funds has already been utilized, as the municipality had been operating under the terms of the extended state budget act prior to the vote. According to Mayor Georgi Dimitrov, the municipality has no outstanding debts to suppliers, with the exception of projects under the national investment program for which state payments are pending. It is expected that by the end of the year, the budget will exceed 35 million euros and own-source revenues will be over-fulfilled.

The administration is already preparing for 2027 and drafting projects to initiate public procurement processes earlier. 170 thousand euros have been allocated for current expenses in the municipality's settlements. Mayor Dimitrov warned that in 2027, the new mechanism for determining waste management fees could place a burden on households, even though local taxes and fees currently remain unchanged.

Among the priority projects slated for completion are the infrastructure in Karnobat's new neighborhoods, the town square, the wastewater treatment plant, and the home for people with dementia.
