Bulgaria's Constitutional Court has upheld the 2026 budget, and the head of parliament's budget committee has called it a clear win. Konstantin Prodanov, who chairs the budget and finance committee, said the ruling was a victory for the state's financial stability and a total defeat for the opposition. He spoke at a briefing in parliament.

The court refused to throw out the whole budget law, as the opposition had asked.

Prodanov said the law complies with the constitution and the budget framework is stable and valid. He accused the opposition of trying to sabotage budget policy and called its demands irresponsible.

"The planned deficit of 5.7% was a direct result of the irresponsible financial policy of the governments before us," Prodanov said. He also blames the heavy legacy of past governments, and says the current government is determined to show the facts: huge debts, hidden invoices and postponed spending.

"The truth about the state of the country's finances cannot be unconstitutional," the committee chairman added.

Prodanov said Temenuzhka Petkova of GERB-SDS accused the court today of ruling under political pressure, because it has judges appointed by Rumen Radev. He replied that all 11 judges took the decision unanimously, including some who were not appointed by the then president.
