Faulty heating appliances, old cables, defective exploding batteries - these are just some of the causes that can trigger a fire in the home. In the winter season, household fires are most often caused by improper use of heating and heating appliances left unattended, as well as careless handling of damaged cables and compromised insulation.
Tips from firefighters:
- Do not use extension cords and extension leads for high-powered heating appliances. Plug them directly into the building's outlets.
- Only use chargers that are standard and in good working order.
- Do not leave chargers continuously plugged into the outlet.
- If the battery of a phone, laptop, or other device is faulty, do not charge it.
What to do in case of a fire:
- Stay calm.
- If the fire is in its initial stage, try to extinguish it (water is not used on electrical installations and fats).
- In case of heavy smoke, use a wet cloth.
- Move close to the floor.
- If the exits are blocked, seal the door.
- The safest places are the balcony and the bathroom.
- Signal with a garment or cloth on the balcony or window.
Firefighters remind that smoke is the most dangerous, and the evacuation time is no more than two minutes.
