Criticism of the government and call for urgent measures
Members of Parliament from the DPS raised an alarm about a serious increase in road traffic accident fatalities over the last three years. Kalin Stoyanov directed sharp criticism at former Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev, accusing him of focusing on personal vendettas instead of tackling the "war on the roads."
Proposal for a total ban on electric scooters
Halil Letifov emphasized that current regulations for electric scooter traffic are not yielding results—neither speed limits nor age restrictions are being observed. The DPS is insisting on a total ban on this type of vehicle to prevent further accidents similar to the one in Ruse on May 31.
The authorities are demonstrating inhuman calmness, which comes at the cost of human lives, stated Hamid Hamid.
The DPS confirmed that they will continue to introduce legislative changes to strengthen prevention and expect an adequate reaction from the Council of Ministers.
- Increase in road accidents for the third consecutive year.
- Ineffectiveness of existing legal changes.
- The DPS proposes radical measures against electric scooters.
