"There Is Such a People" withdrew the controversial bill for amendments to the Penal Code
Sofia – The party "There Is Such a People" (ITN) withdrew its bill for amendments to the Penal Code, the press center of the political force announced. The decision ends the debates around the proposed changes, which caused significant public attention.
Days ago, ITN proposed drastic changes in the legislation. The bill provided for prison sentences of 1 to 6 years for the dissemination of personal information without consent. The reason, stated by the submitters, was the need for stricter protection of personal life, given the rapid development of modern technologies and communications. According to them, the current civil protection is no longer able to respond to the challenges of the new time.
Initially, the bill received support. It was approved in the Legal Committee of the National Assembly, where it gathered 14 votes "for". The discussion in the commission, although recorded, attracted the attention of journalists and political analysts, who tried to predict the development of the political situation.
Reactions to the proposed changes were not late. In a sign of disagreement with the proposed legal changes, the long-time screenwriter of the show "Slavi's Show" – Ivo Siromakhov announced that he was leaving the television "Seven Eighths". This decision, taken by the personality known to many viewers, further emphasized the tension around the bill. It testifies to a division in society, which was also manifested in the comments on social networks, where the topics of protection of personal life and freedom of speech were in the foreground. The withdrawal of the bill comes against the background of growing tension in political circles and significant public interest in the details around it.
