Caretaker Minister of Education Sergey Ignatov stated that Ukraine is the country that does the most for the Bulgarian diaspora in Europe. This was on the occasion of the signed Protocol between the Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Ignatov emphasized that the protocol, signed in Kyiv, concerns the development of the teaching of the Bulgarian language, history, geography, and customs in the Bolgrad gymnasium, a symbol of the Bulgarian Revival. The protocol guarantees the study of these subjects from grades 1 to 12, without reducing the number of hours.

The fourth point of the protocol provides for financial support from the Bulgarian side, including teacher training, textbooks, and educational events. The program also includes qualification courses for teachers, Bulgarian language practices for students, and the secondment of teachers in various Bulgarian subjects. Admission to Bulgarian universities for high-achievers from the Bolgrad gymnasium is also foreseen.
