The Regional Police Directorate in Shumen commended a 47-year-old citizen for his extremely responsible behavior on the roads, who prevented a potential massive traffic accident. On August 3, Georgi Apostolov became a key participant in detaining a drunk bus driver in the Burgas region.
The incident unfolded dramatically on the route between Burgas and Varna, immediately after the turnoff to Aheloy. Apostolov noticed a bus moving extremely riskily - at high speed and with uncontrollable maneuvers. Together with another driver from Nessebar, they took immediate action to pursue the vehicle.
The critical moment occurred in the territory of Sunny Beach, when the driver tried to make a U-turn. The two citizens managed to force him to stop and hand over his keys, after which they immediately called 112. The arrived police officers found that the driver had 2.73 per mille of alcohol.
"Before the roundabout near Nessebar, the driver almost caused a massive catastrophe," Apostolov said. He emphasized that other road users not only did not help but were only watching and photographing the incident with their mobile phones.
Senior Commissioner Georgi Gendov highlighted the exceptional importance of civic responsibility. "It is necessary for society to form intolerance towards such violations," said the head of the regional police department.
The statistics for Shumen region are more than concerning - since the beginning of the year, 156 unqualified drivers, 120 drivers driving under the influence of alcohol, and 34 driving after drug use have been identified. In the past week, a total of 2,052 violations were registered on the roads in the region.
Gendov made an explicit call to citizens to be active and report risky drivers to 112, instead of limiting themselves to documenting through social networks.
