On June 16, 2025, a large-scale civic initiative was held in the capital in support of the introduction of a new school subject, focused on the spiritual and moral education of young people. The event was organized by parent and non-governmental organizations, in cooperation with representatives of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, and was held under the slogan "Children deserve spirituality".

The main idea of the proposed subject "Virtues and Religion" is to offer moral education based on Christian values, without violating the secular character of the education system. The initiative includes a petition that has already collected over 20,000 signatures, and a procession in which parents, students, and clergy participated.

According to the Proto-Syngellos of the Sofia Metropolis, Archimandrite John, the proposal is in line with European practices and aims to shape young people with moral resilience. At the moment, the Ministry of Education has not yet expressed an official position, but a discussion on the topic is expected in the fall.
