Movement at the borders of Bulgaria with the Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia, and Turkey is proceeding smoothly, and traffic at all major border crossing points is normal. This was announced by the General Directorate of "Border Police" in its official statement, published on their website, with data current as of 6:00 a.m. this morning.

Despite the generally calm situation, travelers should be aware of a number of significant difficulties in other directions. Particular challenges continue to be observed at the border with Romania. The operation of the ferry connection, which serves the Oryahovo – Bechet border crossing, remains completely suspended. The reason for this is the extremely low water level of the Danube River, which makes crossing impossible. The Border Police warns drivers to avoid this route and use alternative border checkpoints to continue their journey to Romania.

Difficulties at the Ruse Border Crossing Point

A serious traffic management system has also been introduced at the key border crossing point near Ruse, where a major renovation is underway on the Bulgarian section of the Danube Bridge. To ensure the safety of those crossing and the efficient execution of construction activities, passage is carried out in only one lane. Traffic is regulated by a passage regime, which is managed by employees of the contractor company. Queues of waiting vehicles are forming, and drivers' patience is being put to the test.

The Situation at the Border with Greece

Difficulties are also present at the border with Greece. The road connecting Zlatograd with the Greek city of Xanthi is closed to all types of vehicles. The reason for the complete suspension of traffic is repair work being carried out on Greek territory. The restriction is expected to be in effect until September 13, 2025, and during this period, travelers are advised to use the alternative route through the Makaza border crossing point.

In addition, on the Rudozem – Xanthi route, but again on the Greek side, active construction work is also being carried out. Greek authorities have taken security measures, placing clearly visible signs indicating that the area is a construction site. Citizens are forbidden from entering the site, which aims to prevent accidents and ensure the smooth progress of the work. This information is important for all who plan to cross into Greece through these areas.
