The meteorological situation in the mountain regions of Bulgaria today appears dynamic and variable, with experts from the Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) of the Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC) warning about potential dangers during the tourist season.

In the morning, temperatures will reach around 15 degrees at mountain resorts, but in the afternoon a sharp change is forecast with the development of intense cumulus-rain clouds. The most affected will be the areas in Western Bulgaria, where meteorological conditions are most unfavorable.

The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) confirms expectations of significant atmospheric instability. Short-term precipitation will be accompanied by electrical discharges and thunderstorms, with a high probability of hail in mountain massifs.

On Vitosha, the first signs of deterioration have already been registered – precipitation is falling and thunderous outbursts can be heard. In the central part of the Stara Planina, relatively calm meteorological conditions with minimal wind still prevail.

The wind will be light to moderate, with a western direction – east-southeast. Maximum temperatures will vary from 22 degrees at 1200 meters altitude to around 15 degrees at 2000 meters.

While Western Bulgaria will be under a cloudy front with a high probability of precipitation, Central and Eastern Bulgaria will maintain a predominantly sunny weather character.
