Fighting the inferno on the Atlantic coast
Firefighters in France are using all available resources to contain forest fires along the Atlantic coast. The crisis is deepening due to an approaching new heatwave.
"We will win this battle," declared French President Emmanuel Macron, thanking international aid from Germany and Turkey.
- Over 220,000 people have been evacuated in the Bordeaux area.
- More than 42,000 hectares of forest have been destroyed.
- 2,750 firefighters and 18 specialized aircraft are participating in the operation.
The situation in Spain: Record number of fires
Spain is also reporting significant damage, with the Avila region recording the largest forest fire in the country's modern history. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez emphasized that denying climate change is the "worst fuel" for the fires.
Despite slight progress in containing the blaze, expected temperatures of up to 42 degrees are placing rescue teams before a new serious test in a race against time.
