Forest fire blocks the area between Medven and Gradec
A large-scale operation to extinguish a forest fire is underway in the area between the villages of Medven and Gradec. The distress signal was received today at 1:30 PM, and the fire has spread rapidly on both sides of road II-48.
Teams on the ground
The following are engaged in the fight against the blaze:
- 5 teams from the Regional Directorate for Fire Safety and Protection of the Population (RDZPBZN) – Sliven
- 2 fire department teams from Burgas
- Employees of the State Forestry – Kotel
- Two helicopters from the "Graf Ignatievo" air base
- Support from military personnel is expected
Important: The BG-ALERT system has been activated for all settlements in the fire area.
Road safety
Police teams from the Kotel Regional Police Department are on-site to ensure traffic safety. Road II-48 remains under observation due to intense smoke, which may hinder drivers. At this time, there is no direct danger to nearby settlements, and efforts to contain the fire continue under the direction of the RDZPBZN – Sliven.
