A resignation that shook the system
The Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Georgi Kandev, announced that he is leaving his post after facing the impossibility of choosing between his personal principles and the demands of those in power.
"Choosing between my position and my principles is impossible. Promising action while being forced to remain silent is also impossible. I have understood the message," Kandev wrote on his official Facebook profile.
The reasons behind the decision
Kandev emphasized that he does not wish to be the person who simply "looks sternly into the cameras." After 30 years of service, he states that:
- The law is the backbone of the state.
- The task of a police officer is to be useful, not just convenient.
- Taking responsibility is impossible when decisions are made by others.
A look back
Georgi Kandev was appointed as acting Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Interior during the caretaker government of Andrey Gyurov. He remained in his post after the elections in April, but he shares that there is "no decree" for people's trust and that he does not want to support a facade with his name.
