During the first eight months of 2026, inspectors from the Executive Agency "General Labour Inspectorate" (EAGLI) conducted over 32,500 inspections, uncovering 125,800 violations of labor legislation. Nearly half of these—close to 66,700—concerned the provision of healthy and safe working conditions. Due to identified risks to the health and lives of employees, regulatory authorities suspended operations at sites, facilities, and individual workstations in 714 cases. Simultaneously, since the beginning of the year, 95 workers have been removed from their duties due to non-compliance with safety rules or a lack of required qualifications, marking an increase compared to the same period in 2025, when 69 workers were removed.
The agency attributes the heightened risk of accidents to the end of the summer vacation season. The return to the usual work rhythm often leads to reduced concentration, necessitating increased vigilance on the part of both employers and employees. In this regard, the EAGLI reminds workers that in the event of a serious and immediate danger, they have the legal right to stop working and immediately notify their direct supervisor.
According to regulations, the employer is responsible for ensuring a healthy work environment, including the provision of personal protective equipment and work clothing. Management is also obligated to exercise effective control, prohibiting the admission to work of individuals without the necessary skills and knowledge. Cases requiring specific qualifications particularly apply to high-risk machinery and technological processes. For their part, employees are required to follow the rules and use the provided equipment for its intended purpose—a practice which the inspectorate notes is often neglected, as workers sometimes fail to use the safety gear available to them.
With the arrival of autumn, the Labour Inspectorate plans to continue its intensified oversight across various sectors of the economy. The focus of upcoming inspections will be on the following areas:
- The lawful establishment of employment relationships;
- Working conditions and the employment of minors;
- The employment of third-country nationals;
- Compliance with working hours, leave, and proper remuneration for labor.
