The General Directorate of National Police (GDNP) has issued a warning regarding phishing emails being circulated in the institution's name. In a statement posted on Facebook, the police clarify that scammers are accusing recipients of committing serious crimes and threatening them with arrest if they do not respond to the letter within 48 hours.
The fraudulent messages are titled "Police Summons Notice" and are designed to look like legitimate correspondence. To appear credible, the perpetrators use the logos of the Ministry of Interior, the GDNP, and Europol, as well as fake signatures, registration numbers, and names of GDNP officials.
In the deceptive letters, citizens are urged to open an attached file and establish contact via an email address provided in the message. The police advise not to yield to pressure, not to open any attachments or links, and not to provide any personal data or documents. It is important not to trust logos, stamps, or official-looking numbers, as these can easily be copied.
The GDNP emphasizes that the institution does not notify citizens of initiated proceedings through threatening emails and does not request explanations via email within short timeframes. If there is any doubt about the authenticity of a received message, the directorate advises citizens to contact the institution independently through its official contact details, rather than using the information provided in the suspicious letter.
