The international flight exercise European Spartan Exercise 2025 (ESE 25) begins today at Bezmer Air Base, the Bulgarian Air Force reported.

The opening ceremony was official, marking the beginning of a large-scale joint training exercise that will last until October 3.

The Air Forces of Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, Greece, and Lithuania are participating in ESE 25, demonstrating increased cooperation in the field of aviation security and defense in the region.

Main Locations and Trainings

The main locations for the exercise are Bezmer and Chesnegirovo airports, where intensive tactical training will be conducted.

This wide range of scenarios is designed to increase the operational compatibility of allied forces and prepare them for potential crisis situations.

Participation of Casa C-295 aircraft

A notable novelty in ESE 25 is the participation of countries operating Casa C-295 aircraft, in addition to the well-known "Spartan" (C-27J Spartan) military transport aircraft.

This diversity in aircraft is a key element for increasing efficiency and optimizing resources in joint operations.

Integrating different types of aircraft into one training environment will allow pilots and technicians to familiarize themselves with different models and learn effective methods for collaboration.

The Bulgarian Air Force – hosts for the fifth time

The Bulgarian Air Force is hosting the European Spartan Exercise for the fifth time.

The previous edition, in 2022, successfully demonstrated our country"s ability to organize and conduct high-level international flight exercises.

The repetition of this event this year underscores Bulgaria"s importance as a key partner in European defense and security initiatives.

The atmosphere at Bezmer Air Base today is full of energy, special infrastructure has been prepared for the exercise, and the readiness of the teams is visible.
