The Ministry of Electronic Governance registers an impressive growth in local tax and fee revenues through its electronic system. Statistics show that for the first six months of 2025, nearly 20 million leva have been collected, which is a significant increase compared to previous periods.
Comparative analysis reveals a sustainable trend of increasing electronic payments. While the total amount for the entire year 2024 was just over 14 million leva, in 2023 it amounted to 10 million leva. This upward trend underscores the growing trust of citizens in digital financial services.
The geographical breakdown of revenues reveals that four major municipalities lead – Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, and Burgas. They form approximately 70% of the total tax volume, with Sofia Municipality alone generating nearly 48% of the collected amount for the specified period.
The introduced regulatory changes allow citizens and businesses to make online payments to 260 municipalities in the country. Additional convenience includes the ability to check and settle old obligations, which further stimulates financial discipline.
It is indicative that during the first half of 2025, 113,315 old obligations from the period 2011-2024 were paid, totaling 3,165,813 leva. In comparison, throughout 2024, 106,140 old obligations for the period 2011-2023 were settled, amounting to 2,469,753 leva.
