Police in Burgas detained two drivers with more than 1.7 promille of alcohol in separate checks a few hours apart, the Burgas regional police directorate (ODMVR) said.
Both were over 1.2 promille, the level above which the Criminal Code makes drink-driving a criminal offence. Fast-track proceedings have been opened against them. Police say neither case involved a crash or injuries.
The first case was last night at about 22:20. Officers from the First District Police Department stopped a 49-year-old man from Pomorie in the Lazur neighbourhood, at the junction of Adam Mickiewicz Street and the road in front of block 1. He was driving a Mercedes CLK 270 and tested at 1.98 promille. He was detained under a police order.
A few hours earlier, at about 16:20, a Second District Police Department team stopped a 62-year-old Burgas man in a Mazda with Burgas plates on Trakia Boulevard. He tested at 1.70 promille but refused a blood test for chemical analysis.
He was detained for up to 24 hours, and his car was seized in line with the rules.
