The Ruse–Sofia road is closed near Veliko Tarnovo after a night crash in which two lorries and an international coach carrying 38 passengers burned, police said.
The crash happened at about 2:30am on Wednesday, 28 October, between the villages of Strahilovo and Maslarevo. Police say two heavy lorries collided and caught fire. An international coach then drove into the burning lorries and also went up in flames.
All 38 passengers were taken off the coach before it caught fire. Early reports point to minor injuries.
The condition of the lorry drivers is unclear. It cannot be ruled out that they died, but this has not been officially confirmed.
Firefighters, police and ambulance crews are at the scene. They are putting out the fire, finding the injured and securing the site.
Traffic in the area has been stopped, and vehicles are taking detours through nearby villages.
The cause of the first collision between the lorries has yet to be established. Officials do not yet know where the coach set out from.
Another passenger coach caught fire earlier this year. In July, a coach on the Burgas–Sofia route caught fire near the Trayanovi Vrata tunnel, and all its passengers left the vehicle.
