Ship traffic through the Bosphorus in Istanbul was briefly halted in both directions so the tanker M/T Golden Sapling could pass safely.
The Hong Kong-flagged tanker carries oil and chemical products. It is operated by Singapore's Chem Pool Management. In August, an armed drone hit it in the Black Sea, and it drifted and ran aground on the coast near Samsun.
After a salvage operation, the ocean tug Aras Salvor, of the firm Aras Marine, towed the tanker to the Bosphorus. The vessel is 147.8 metres long and has a deadweight capacity of 19,455 tonnes (DWT).
Two tugs of the General Directorate of Coastal Safety, KEGM Kurtarma 8 and KEGM Kurtarma 11, escorted it. The passage was filmed from the air.
The tanker is now heading to the Öge Gemi Söküm Tesisleri yard in Aliağa, Izmir, where it will be cut up and recycled.
