Huge potholes have appeared on the streets of Varna, turning driving into a real challenge. Drivers share the nightmare on the roads, describing deep craters that create a risk of accidents.
Drivers reduce speed, enter the oncoming lane, or are forced to seek alternative routes to avoid the dangerous potholes. The depth of the potholes increases with distance from the city center, making passage on some sections almost impossible.
Drivers share:
- "It's difficult, there are many potholes, there are terribly many... A prerequisite for road accidents."
- "I pass on Vyara Street, it's terrible there..."
- "After the recent snowfalls, new potholes appeared in many places... Everything has a solution, as long as there's a will."
District administrations are responsible for designating streets for repair. In the Odessos district, repairs have already begun.
YanisLava Shopova, mayor of Odessos District: "This year, for the first quarter, we have been allocated 171,000. We have planned to make 3,566 square meters of asphalt pavement with these 171,000. The potholes have increased due to the difference in temperatures."
Yaroslav Lukov, deputy mayor of Odessos District: "We should have finished by the middle of March, but given the bad weather, the contractor informed us that they will officially request an extension of about a month. We expect to finish by mid-April, yes."
The allocated funds are only for emergency repairs.
