The football club "Dunav" from Ruse enters the new season with a clear vision for development and a strong desire to qualify for First League. In an exclusive interview with BTA, head coach Georgi Chilikov shared details about the preparation and expectations for the team.
According to Chilikov's expert assessment, the upcoming championship in Second League will be extremely competitive and challenging. "All teams are extremely equal and seriously prepared," the coach is categorical, emphasizing that each match will require maximum concentration and dedication.
The club has undertaken a large-scale selection, attracting eight new footballers including Georgi Kitanov, Akila Monteiro, Hyusein Kelyovluyev and others. Special emphasis is placed on youth development, with the team having eight players under 21 years of age.
"We are working on team coordination, and the quality of individual players is undisputable," Chilikov commented. He candidly admits that serious work lies ahead, especially regarding the defensive line, but remains optimistic about the team's potential.
The selection process is approximately 90% complete, with the coach sharing the challenges of attracting Bulgarian footballers. "Many of them prefer to stay close to their homes, which directed us towards attracting foreign players," the specialist explains.
The team's first official match is scheduled for August 2 against "Lokomotiv" Gorna Oryahovitsa. Chilikov highlights the importance of hosting in Ruse and the desire to present themselves to the local audience with attractive and result-oriented football.
Among the challenges facing the team are the absence of several key players for the upcoming match – Preslav Bachev due to injury, Ibrahim Keita due to suspension, and Akila Monteiro, who is waiting for a work visa.
The coach openly demonstrates emotional commitment to the club and the city, calling on fans to support the team. "I want to see more and more people in the stadium. Players give more when they feel support," Chilikov shares.
Dunav's strategy is clear – gradual development, focus on young talents and ambition to qualify for the higher division. The upcoming months will show how successfully the team will achieve its goals.
