The Ministry of Justice initiated significant changes to the Criminal Code, which were supported by deputies during today's legal committee meeting. The legislative corrections provide for a drastic increase in financial sanctions for driving while intoxicated.

When alcohol levels exceed 1.5 per mille in the driver's blood, the fine will increase from the current 1000 leva to an impressive 5000 leva. A repeated violation with a sample over 0.5 per mille will be punished with a fine between 2000 and 10,000 leva, which represents an extremely strict approach to such offenses.

An identical scale of sanctions is provided for driving after using narcotic substances. Additionally, the draft law also addresses alcohol and tobacco sales to minors, providing for higher penalties.

Minister Daniel Mitov additionally reported another important innovation - complete synchronization between the cameras of the Toll system and the Ministry of Interior system. This means that drivers using emergency lanes will be immediately photographed and sanctioned.
