The Sofia Technology Complex "Sofia Tech Park" has become the host of an extremely significant scientific asset – the Discoverer supercomputer, which marks a new stage in Bulgaria's digital infrastructure. The large-scale project, implemented through joint financing between the national government and the European High-Performance Computing Partnership (EuroHPC JU), represents a serious investment of 11.5 million euros.
The technical parameters of the system are extremely impressive – a sustained capacity of 4.5 petaflops and a peak mode of up to 6 petaflops, which positions it among the most powerful computing complexes in the regional scale. Discoverer has exceptional potential for processing extremely complex scientific tasks in various strategic directions.
Experts define this supercomputer as a key tool for the development of modern research projects. Its exceptional capabilities cover multiple critical areas, including artificial intelligence, quantum modeling, biotechnological research, and large-scale scientific simulations.
The integration of such high-tech infrastructure creates unique prerequisites for attracting international scientific teams and industrial partnerships. Discoverer is not just a technological asset, but symbolizes Bulgaria's ambitions to establish itself as a serious participant in the European scientific space.
Localizing such a powerful computing center in Sofia demonstrates the country's strategic orientation towards innovation and technological advancement. This project will undoubtedly support the development of the digital ecosystem and create new opportunities for Bulgarian scientists and researchers.
