Start of the appellate proceedings in Burgas
Today, the Appellate Court in Burgas is opening the case against Syrian citizen Omar Adnan, accused of the deaths of two police officers, Yordan Iliev and Atanas Gradev. The tragic incident occurred in 2022 when a bus carrying migrants ran over the law enforcement patrol vehicle.
"Adnan had every opportunity to avoid the collision but intentionally did not take action to stop," the indictment states.
Main demands of the parties:
- The Prosecution: Insists on changing the 20-year sentence to life imprisonment.
- The Relatives: Seek justice and the harshest punishment according to the law.
- The Defense: Appeals the sentence with a request to reduce the penalty to 15 years in prison.
We remind you that during the investigation, the defendant concealed his actual age for nearly two years, which further complicated the legal process.
