Institutional silence and the substitution of reality
Today, Bulgaria is facing two scandals that reveal the same model of governance – a systematic circumvention of rules and institutional inaction. According to Tsoncho Ganev from "Vazrazhdane," the link between the "secret city" near Varna and the statistical manipulations for the Eurozone is obvious.
The mechanism is the same: first the rules are broken, then the institutions remain silent, and finally, the public is faced with a fait accompli.
Key points from the criticism of "Vazrazhdane":
- False data: Official inflation diverges drastically from reality, as according to Ganev, it remains above 20%.
- Institutional blindness: In the case in Varna, the institutions "do not see" the illegal construction, just as they ignore the real economic indicators for the Eurozone.
- Lack of accountability: Politicians present a convenient version of reality to justify pre-made decisions, ignoring the public interest.
Ganev raised the fundamental question of political accountability regarding these "follies," which threaten financial stability and trust in state authorities.
