Today, March 31st, Bulgaria marks the professional holiday of the internal auditor for the second consecutive year, established by Decision No. 485 of the Council of Ministers from July 5, 2024.

The Law on Internal Audit in the Public Sector, published in the "State Gazette" in 2006, defines the essence, principles, and scope of internal audit, as well as the status of the persons who carry it out.

The adoption of the law is crucial for building a new financial control system in the country within the context of joining the European Union.

Internal audit is an independent activity of providing assurance and consulting, aimed at improving the activities of organizations. Internal audit services are also created in banking institutions and other organizations.

The first celebration of the holiday was in 2025, with a congratulatory address from the Minister of Finance.
