Historic Start: Bulgaria on the Giro d'Italia Map
Burgas has officially entered the pink magic of the Giro d'Italia. With a solemn ceremony at the Summer Theatre, the 23 teams that will compete in one of the most prestigious cycling races in the world were presented.
"This is a historic moment for us. A sporting event of this scale is happening for the first time," stated the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dimitar Iliev.
The Route of the Champions
- May 8: Start in Nessebar, finish in Burgas.
- May 9: The stage departs from Burgas towards Veliko Tarnovo.
Minister of Tourism Irena Georgieva emphasized that this is a unique opportunity for our country to showcase its tourism potential – from the Black Sea coast to the mountains.
Why is the Giro d'Italia important?
The race, which has been held since 1909, is part of the "Grand Tours" in cycling, along with the Tour de France and La Vuelta. The symbol of the race, the pink jersey Maglia Rosa, is now part of the emotion that has taken over Bulgaria.
