The local administration of Burgas is undertaking an ambitious initiative to transform social services, which will be funded by the National Plan for Recovery and Sustainable Development.
The project includes two key innovative components. The primary element is the installation of photovoltaic systems with a capacity between 15 and 30 kilowatts in a total of 26 social facilities designated as delegated state activities. This large-scale intervention will generate 780 kilowatts of energy from renewable sources, directly benefiting over 650 users.
Such investment decisions will create significant financial potential for social institutions that currently purchase electricity from the free market. The freed-up funds will be redirected to additional care and personal development activities for the most vulnerable citizens.
The second important aspect of the project provides for the acquisition of an electric vehicle and a charging station with a minimum capacity of 22 kilowatts for the needs of the Home Social Patronage in Burgas. This acquisition will modernize the vehicle fleet of social services.
The implementation of these activities gains special significance in view of the growing mobile needs in the social sector, especially in the context of deinstitutionalization and the transition to community and home care.
Through these targeted measures, the municipality aims to drastically reduce energy costs and qualitatively improve social services. Forecasts indicate a minimum 30% reduction in non-renewable primary energy consumption, with the electric vehicle further reducing carbon emissions and fuel and maintenance costs.
With this strategic investment, Burgas demonstrates a consistent commitment to modern and sustainable social care, fully in line with the principles of the European Green Deal and energy independence strategies.
