The Mayor of Burgas, Dimitar Nikolov, proposed revolutionary changes to the municipal programs "Burgas Children" and "Successful Students", aimed at stimulating young talents in the city.

The proposal, which will be considered at the Burgas Municipal Council session on September 30, promises a wider scope and more flexible support for students with outstanding achievements in science, art, and sports.

These changes are expected to create a more favorable environment for the development of young people from Burgas and help them succeed in the labor market.

Central Theme: Support for Students

A central theme in the new rules is the expansion of support opportunities for students. They focus on promoting high achievement in science, innovation, art, and sports, with the clear goal of motivating young people to develop their potential and remain in Burgas.

The creation of a more dynamic and supportive educational environment aimed at retaining young talents in the region is envisioned.

Professional Bachelors in the Program

A remarkable change is the inclusion of students pursuing a "Professional Bachelor" degree in the "Successful Students" program. Until now they were excluded, but given the growing need for medical personnel, such as nurses, in Burgas and the region, this limitation is being removed. The decision is a direct response to the current demographic and economic needs of the city.

New Measure: Municipal Order

In addition to expanding existing programs, a completely new measure is being introduced - "Municipal Order". It will allow the provision of free training to students in areas where the state order is insufficient.

This will allow the municipality to actively influence the training of specialists in key areas such as healthcare, education, and technology, ensuring the personnel it needs in the future.

In Line with Strategic Priorities

The new rules are in line with Strategic Priority 3 of the Burgas Municipality's Demographic Development Program, adopted in June 2023, and are prepared for the 2025/2026 academic year.

With them, the Municipality of Burgas aims to provide even better conditions for the development of young talents and guarantee the availability of qualified personnel needed for the economic and cultural prosperity of the region.

This is expected to contribute to the sustainable development of the city and establish it as an attractive place for education and career development. The proposal was met with enthusiasm by many people from Burgas, who see in it an opportunity to improve the education system and the economic potential of the city.
