Historical significance of the holiday
Every year on September 6, the city pays tribute to the memory of the ancestors who performed one of the greatest deeds in the new history of Bulgaria - the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia. Mayor Nikolov emphasizes that this was an act that unequivocally rejected the unjust conditions imposed by the Berlin Congress. According to him, "our people will not put up with injustice".
The mayor's message is not just a historical retrospect but a call to the present. He defines the Unification as "one of the bright pages in our history, written with worthy deeds by our fellow countrymen, who were ready to sacrifice everything in the name of the freedom and independence of our people".
