Burgas marks Unification Day with an official message from Mayor Dimitar Nikolov. In his address, which was distributed to the media, the mayor emphasizes the historical significance of the event from 1885 and its timeless relevance in the present day.

Historical significance of the holiday

Every year on September 6, the city pays tribute to the memory of the ancestors who performed one of the greatest deeds in the new history of Bulgaria - the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia. Mayor Nikolov emphasizes that this was an act that unequivocally rejected the unjust conditions imposed by the Berlin Congress. According to him, "our people will not put up with injustice".

The mayor's message is not just a historical retrospect but a call to the present. He defines the Unification as "one of the bright pages in our history, written with worthy deeds by our fellow countrymen, who were ready to sacrifice everything in the name of the freedom and independence of our people". This sacrifice, according to him, has left a lasting legacy for future generations.

In his address to the citizens of Burgas, Dimitar Nikolov states that "the Unification was and always will be an example of patriotism and a challenge that has stood before every generation". He highlights the word UNITY as a key word that should guide modern Bulgarians. He emphasizes that it is precisely what is needed in the relationships between people and in their daily deeds. The goal, as the mayor points out, is to bequeath "a better future to our children".
