Bulgaria is facing yet another serious wave of fires, which is incinerating huge areas and causing significant material damage. Against this backdrop, the Municipality of Burgas proposes taking urgent measures to strengthen local fire services, which are among the busiest in the entire country. The mayor, Dimitar Nikolov, has submitted a report to the Municipal Council, proposing the purchase of critically important equipment for firefighters.
Critically Important Equipment for Firefighters
According to information published on the local institution's website, the mayor's proposal will be considered at an upcoming council meeting. It comes at a time when the region is under a serious test. Since June 15, Burgas firefighters have responded to 15 fires within the municipality alone, some of which have caused direct material damage.
The incidents in the villa zones "Ostritsata" and in the town of Bulgarovo were particularly severe. The fires there were devastating, destroying dozens of houses, recalls Nikolov.
Firefighters, working under extreme strain, have found that much of their existing equipment is no longer fit for use. During the extinguishing of these incidents, a significant portion of the Type D fire hoses, with which the vehicles of the district services are equipped, were partially or completely destroyed.
Why is it Necessary to Purchase New Equipment?
These hoses, with a diameter of 25 mm and a length of 20 m, are essential in fighting forest and field fires, which are particularly characteristic of the area during the summer months. Mayor Nikolov specifies that at present, the Regional Directorate does not have a sufficient quantity of this type of equipment to provide for all on-duty teams in the municipality.
To ensure that firefighters will have the necessary gear to deal with future incidents, the mayor proposes that the Municipality of Burgas purchase a total of 100 specialized fire hoses. They have a working pressure of 15 bar, which makes them suitable for dealing with intense flames. The proposal is a step toward ensuring the safety of residents and their property in the face of the ongoing threat of fires.
