Precise operational work by experts from the "Drug Trafficking Counteraction" department prevented an attempt to import prohibited substances on Bulgarian territory. On June 30, during a routine check at Terminal 2 of Vasil Levski Airport, a woman with Brazilian citizenship, who arrived from Sao Paulo with a transit through Doha, was stopped.

The initial risk profile drew the customs inspectors' attention to the specific passenger. During initial questioning, the woman categorically stated that she was arriving solely for tourist purposes and declared a lack of any objects subject to declaration.

A thorough inspection of her personal luggage revealed an extremely precisely hidden drug cargo. Two black envelopes containing 1.6 kg of substance were found in the suitcase's double bottom. An immediate field drug test confirmed the suspicions - the substance was identified as cocaine.

Immediately after documenting the crime, the competent authorities took legal actions. The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office initiated pre-trial proceedings, and the accused was detained for the maximum permissible 72-hour period. The court is expected to make a final decision regarding the measure of restraint on July 3.
