GERB leader Boyko Borisov urged the party's representatives in the Municipal Election Commission (OIK) - Varna not to participate in any potential attempts to terminate the mandate of the mayor of Varna, Blagomir Kotsev. The appeal was made in connection with an upcoming meeting of the OIK - Varna. This was written by the GERB party on Facebook.

The announcement quotes Borisov's words, according to which GERB does not want a “service victory” in the sea city and does not aim to change the results of the majority vote of the citizens through administrative or procedural actions.

The party recalls that at its meeting on November 22, 2025, the Executive Commission of GERB, after consultations with Borisov, unanimously decided to recommend to the members of the OIK - Varna, elected from the party's quota, to vote “against” the removal of the mayor of Varna.

With this decision, GERB points out, the party has given a clear sign that it does not strive for service victories and does not want its name, as well as that of its leader, to be drawn into political actions aimed at changing the choice already made by the citizens.

On November 23, the municipal election commission in Varna postponed its decision on whether Mayor Blagomir Kotsev should be removed from his post due to long and unjustified absence from the workplace.

The mayor of Varna was detained on July 8, and the case was taken over by the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office. On November 13, the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment in the Sofia City Court. Along with Kotsev, four other defendants were handed over to the court for a total of 12 crimes. On November 19, the Supreme Cassation Court decided that the case should be considered in the Varna District Court, and not by the Sofia City Court. Through the centralized system for random distribution of cases, Svetla Daskalova was appointed as a judge for the trial. On November 27, Kotsev was released on a bail of 200,000 leva.
