The National Migration Management Strategy faces a serious challenge, as accommodation centers have reached critical occupancy levels. The head of the State Agency for Refugees, Mariana Tosheva, presented alarming data on the current refugee infrastructure.
Currently, the six reception centers are occupied at an average of 72%, with two of them functioning at over-capacity of 104%. The most illustrative case is the "Ovcha Kupel" center, where 370 unaccompanied minors are waiting for temporary accommodation.
The proposed expansion involves increasing the total capacity from 3,600 to 5,000 places. Implementation requires active inter-institutional cooperation with local administrations and additional funding from European funds.
The strategic goal is to preventively prevent potential humanitarian crises and provide an adequate migration response after the projected pressure in 2025.
