Economic potential and integration
The full inclusion of refugees in the Bulgarian labor market could generate additional economic growth of 600 million euros. This is shown by the data from a joint study by UNHCR and the research agency ESTAT.
In 2025, refugees have already contributed nearly 471 million euros to Bulgaria's GDP, but this capacity remains underutilized due to a number of barriers.

To realize this potential, the report highlights the need for:
- Expanding Bulgarian language courses.
- Facilitating the recognition of foreign qualifications.
- Overcoming informal sector employment.
- Support for the initial integration of people who have experienced trauma.
The integration of refugees is not only a humanitarian act but a strategic economic opportunity for businesses in Bulgaria, which are suffering from a labor shortage. The results of the study will be presented in detail on July 21 at Sofia University.
