Bulgarian Energy Holding (BEH) EAD will participate in the exploration of oil and natural gas in the "Khan Asparuh" block in the Black Sea. The agreement to acquire 10% of the exploration rights was signed in the Council of Ministers in the presence of the outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and the outgoing Minister of Energy, Zhecho Stankov.
With this agreement, concluded between BEH, "OMV Offshore Bulgaria" and "NewMed Energy Balkan Limited", BEH will acquire a share in the search for oil and gas in the exclusive economic zone of Bulgaria.
Minister Stankov emphasized the strategic importance of BEH's participation, which opens doors for a Bulgarian company to actively participate in the exploration of energy resources. He highlighted the potential benefits from concession fees and revenues from BEH's investments, which will be directed to Bulgarian citizens.
Outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov defined the state's participation as an active investor with the potential to generate significant added value. The role of the state in the development of the extractive industry and in creating competitiveness was emphasized.
The Executive Director of BEH, Valentin Nikolov, emphasized the symbolism of the date and the name "Khan Asparuh", expressing hope for success in the exploration. The partners from "OMV" and "NewMed" also expressed confidence in the benefits of the partnership and the opportunity for the development of the Bulgarian economy.
Josef Abu, director of "NewMed Energy Balkan Limited", emphasized the potential of the new investment to create a new pillar for the development of the Bulgarian economy and to achieve energy independence.
