BDZ provides over 6000 additional seats for travel during Christmas and New Year. Train compositions on the main routes in the country will run with more carriages, reports the Bulgarian National Radio.
Traditionally, the national railway carrier adds additional carriages on long routes, mainly Sofia – Varna and Sofia – Burgas, explained Anatoli Atanasov, Director of Operational Activities at BDZ “Passenger Transportation“.
“The increases will occur in two stages, as we anticipate the travel of passengers – a large part of them will depart on December 22nd and 23rd, a smaller part of them will eventually return on the 27th and 28th. And the other peak of travel will be on the 30th-31st and the return on the 3rd and 4th of January, when we assume that we will have the most significant increase in passenger traffic“.
Atanasov advises travelers to purchase their tickets online and as early as possible before the trip, as it is difficult to increase the compositions at the last moment:
“So that we can predict and, depending on the technical condition of the rolling stock, react. At the last moment, things become very difficult, because we have problems with technically sound carriages during the holidays and a second time – a large part of the stations are being repaired, for example, Sofia station. And it is extremely difficult to increase a train composition at the last moment. And today, we will meet and review the sales and the free seats we have, and possibly react tomorrow, where possible, by increasing the trains“, Anatoli Atanasov from BDZ said to BNR.
