Bulgarian Scientists at the XII SCAR Open Science Conference
Bulgarian polar researchers participated in the prestigious XII Open Science Conference of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR), which began on August 10 in Norway. The forum, held under the theme "Antarctic Science: Crossroads for a New Hope," brings together over 1,400 leading scientists.
"This is the largest scientific conference in the world," noted Prof. Christo Pimpirev, head of the delegation and director of the National Center for Polar Research.
Recognition for Bulgarian Science
The most significant highlight for our country is the fact that Bulgaria has been selected to host the 13th global forum in 2028. This event will coincide with the 40th anniversary of the beginning of the Bulgarian presence in Antarctica.
- Focus of discussions: Cryosphere dynamics, oceanography, and biodiversity.
- Participants: Experts from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute.
- International activities: The delegation is also actively participating in the 38th COMNAP meeting in Tromsø.
The scientists are presenting reports based on data from the "St. Kliment Ohridski" base on Livingston Island, establishing our country as a serious factor in polar research.
