Experts from FOUR PAWS report successful pressure on zoos in Dobrich, Kyustendil, and Plovdiv, which are taking specific steps to modernize their facilities. The organization conducted a detailed study revealing significant gaps in wildlife care.

Investigations conducted in 2024–2025 identified critical shortcomings related to limited living spaces and inadequate conditions for various animal species. The analysis results served as a catalyst for large-scale institutional changes.

Zoological gardens received an opportunity to apply for European funding under the specialized program "Technical Assistance for Zoo Investments 2021–2027". The developed plans provide for comprehensive reconstruction of enclosures, expansion of spaces, and introduction of innovative approaches to staff training.

A key focus of the projects is full compliance with the European Zoo Directive, which sets high standards for humane treatment of animals. The goal is not only physical modernization but also a comprehensive transformation of wildlife care.
