The traditional professional holiday of the armed forces was marked with official ceremonies in Sofia and Varna, which emphasized the historical continuity and contemporary significance of the Bulgarian military institution. The event was dedicated to the memorable year of 1878, when the first 12 volunteer battalions were formed – the embryo of today's army structure.
In the capital, a military representative detachment conducted a solemn ceremonial march in front of the Ministry of Defense building. Veterans and citizens paid tribute to the military glory by laying wreaths at memorial sites symbolizing the heroism of national defenders.
The Black Sea alternative of the celebration in Varna included a large-scale demonstration of modern military equipment and professional skills. A special focus was on the showcased capabilities of the security agencies, which illustrated the armed forces' ability to guarantee the state's security.
This day remains the only official professional holiday outside traditional national commemorations, which aims to preserve the memory of the emergence of Bulgarian military might.
