An official forum dedicated to the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Vietnam became a catalyst for a large-scale economic dialogue. Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Doncho Barbalov presented impressive statistical data demonstrating the dynamics of bilateral trade relations.
The quantitative indicators are eloquent - the trade turnover between the two countries in 2024 has grown by over 30% compared to the previous year. Even more indicative is the growth of 29% in just the first two months of 2025, which confirms the upward trend in economic relations.
A key emphasis in Barbalov's statement was the Bulgarian side's readiness to support foreign investors, especially those of Vietnamese origin. The focus is on sectors with high added value and those that can significantly enhance the competitiveness of the national economy.
The diplomat emphasized the importance of several key agreements that create a favorable legal framework for future cooperation. These include the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement from 2020, the bilateral trade agreement from 2023, and the bilateral economic commission meeting held in 2024.
Mutual business visits, organizing delegations, and conducting specialized economic forums were identified as promising channels for deepening the partnership. Barbalov explicitly emphasized that the development of trade and economic relations is viewed in the context of Bulgaria's full membership in the European Union and the Schengen Area.
The forum, organized by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, brought together representatives of Vietnamese and Bulgarian companies, including online participants. The event became an effective platform for establishing new business contacts and outlining future joint projects.
