Bulgarian-Romanian Trade Relations with Upward Potential

Minister Petar Dilov and Ambassador Brânduşa Predescu discussed the deepening of bilateral economic relations, emphasizing the growing trade exchange and prospects for joint cooperation in various sectors.

The economic partnership between Bulgaria and Romania is entering a new stage of intensive development, demonstrating a significant growth in trade exchange. Official data shows an impressive increase in commodity turnover by 7% in the first quarter of 2025, with Bulgarian exports marking a remarkable jump of 18.9% compared to the previous year.

During a diplomatic meeting between the Minister of Economy Petar Dilov and Romanian Ambassador Brândușa Predescu, strategic issues of bilateral economic cooperation were discussed. The presence of Deputy Minister Doncho Barbalov underscored the importance of the meeting.

Minister Dilov emphasized the exceptional importance of Romania as a leading foreign economic partner, noting that the trade exchange between the two countries in the past year exceeded an impressive 7.3 billion euros. The conversations were focused on potential joint initiatives in various promising sectors.

Among the discussed areas, the food industry, information technologies, outsourcing industry, digitalization, environmental projects, and energy stand out. Both countries demonstrated readiness to deepen the partnership and realize joint projects.

Ambassador Predescu highlighted the strategic importance of bilateral relations, emphasizing that they have been elevated to a strategic partnership level. She expressed confidence that Bulgaria's accession to the Eurozone will attract additional investor interest, with 3300 Bulgarian companies already positioned in the Romanian market.

Additional emphasis was placed on the process of joining the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which is expected to increase the confidence of international investors in the region and create new opportunities for both countries.
