Additional measures have been taken to strengthen the security of Bezmer airbase, the country's airspace, and to ensure the safety of citizens. This became clear following a meeting at the Council of Ministers between Prime Minister Rumen Radev and representatives of the security services, dedicated to the current security environment and the risks facing Bulgaria arising from conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.
During the conversation, the security services assured that there is currently no direct threat to national security. They further reported that Bulgarian institutions maintain a constant exchange of information with their partners in the region and within NATO in order to ensure timely warning in the event of an escalation of military hostilities.
Increased control over the country's airspace was also discussed, as well as actions to guarantee the safety of Bulgarian citizens.
The working meeting was attended by Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev, Minister of Defence Dimitar Stoyanov, Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev, Chairperson of SANS Plamen Tonchev, Chairperson of the State Intelligence Agency Antoan Gechev, Director of the Military Intelligence Service Brigadier General Venelin Venev, Deputy Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Krasimir Kanev, Deputy Commander of the Air Force Brigadier General Dimitar Georgiev, Acting Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Interior Chief Commissioner Lyubomir Nikolov, and Acting Director of the Military Police Service Colonel Hristiyan Hristov.
