A New Era for Bulgarian Geographical Indications
Bulgaria has taken a decisive step towards better protection of its unique products. The country has officially deposited the documents for accession to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
This step is key to strengthening the international protection of Bulgarian designations of origin and geographical indications.
High-level meeting in Geneva
The document was presented by Ambassador Angel Bandzhov to WIPO Director General Daren Tang. During the meeting, the long-standing partnership between Bulgaria and WIPO was reaffirmed, with a focus placed on innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable economic growth.

The accession will officially enter into force on June 30, 2026. This development is part of the "Made in Bulgaria" rubric – a partnership initiative between BTA and the Patent Office aimed at promoting Bulgarian intellectual labor.
