Household gas prices in Bulgaria fell 14.5% in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period of 2025. That is the biggest drop among the EU countries for which Eurostat has data. The comparison is in national currency.
The average price in the EU is €0.11 per kilowatt hour, the lowest since the first half of 2022. Gas in the bloc is 10.2% cheaper than in the second half of 2025 and 3.5% cheaper than in the first half of last year.
Eurostat puts the price in Bulgaria at €0.0654 per kilowatt hour. Gas costs most in Sweden (€0.22), the Netherlands (€0.16), and France and Portugal (€0.13 each). Households in Hungary pay the least (€0.03), followed by those in Croatia (€0.05) and in Romania and Slovakia (€0.06 each).
Eurostat has data for only some of the countries. Gas got cheaper in 12 of them, rose in 7 and stayed the same in 4. After Bulgaria, the biggest falls were in Greece (11.3%) and Spain (10.0%). The biggest rises were in Romania (9.3%), Croatia (8.9%) and Slovakia (6.6%).
Eurostat also compares prices in purchasing power standards, which even out price differences between countries. By this measure, 100 kilowatt hours cost 17.7 in Sweden, 15.0 in Portugal and 13.8 in the Netherlands, the highest figures. At the other end are Hungary with 4.3, Luxembourg with 6.6 and Croatia with 6.8. Bulgaria is at 10.3.
Seasonal swings in gas prices are returning to the pattern seen before the 2022 energy crisis, Eurostat says.
