Large-scale operation by BFSA: 174 tons of food destroyed
In the period from June 22 to July 21, 2026, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) conducted 12,185 intensive inspections in food production, processing, and distribution facilities. The results reveal serious safety gaps in the products offered.
A total of 174,092.387 kg of food of animal and non-animal origin have been seized and directed for destruction.
Main identified violations:
- Offering food past its expiration date;
- Products of unclear origin;
- Improper storage of food products;
- Inconsistencies in labeling and consumer information;
- Unsatisfactory hygiene conditions at the facilities.
Administrative measures:
- 859 prescriptions issued and 120 acts for administrative violations;
- 25 facilities have had their entire operations suspended (including enterprises and wholesale warehouses);
- 6 facilities have had their operations partially suspended.
