The start of the road to the title
The European Car of the Year (COTY) award, held for the 64th time, has kicked off its 2027 competition. A jury of 65 experts from 25 countries is beginning its year-long work of testing and evaluating the new models.
What to expect in 2027?
This year's edition is characterized by great variety, with the focus falling on the B-segment. Electric vehicles once again dominate the list of candidates, but there is also room for hybrids and plug-in hybrids. A stronger presence of Chinese manufacturers with high-tech models is also noticeable.
For a model to be a candidate, it must be available in at least five European markets with published prices by the end of 2026.
Key candidates on the list
Among the first names in the race are:
- BMW iX3, Kia EV5, Kia EV2
- Mercedes-Benz GLB and GLC
- Toyota RAV4, Renault Twingo, Citroen C5 Aircross
- Porsche Cayenne Electric, Zeekr 7 GT and Volvo EX60
Evaluation process
After the list of models is finalized on October 28, the jury will select seven finalists. The winner will be officially announced on January 8, 2027, during the Brussels Motor Show.
