Solidarity and shared values are the key to real social transformation – this is the main message that Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov addressed to youth leaders during a forum dedicated to the future of social democracy in the Balkans.
In an emotional speech to conference participants, organized by the Youth Union of the BSP in Stara Zagora, Zafirov drew a historical parallel with the roots of the socialist movement. He recalled that 134 years ago, the organized socialist movement in Bulgaria began from Buzludzha Peak – a space where labor is valued with dignity, and the state thinks about society.
"Social democracy is not just a good intention, but a real mechanism for building a more just world," Zafirov was categorical. He emphasized that the basic principles of socialism remain relevant today – placing the individual at the center of social processes.
A special focus in his speech was on young people who choose to stay in Bulgaria despite the challenges. Zafirov defined them as the true drivers of change, calling on them to be brave, ask questions, and propose innovative development ideas.
On a personal note, the deputy prime minister shared his emotional connection to the traditional BSP gathering, which will be his first as a regularly elected chairman. The location of the gathering – Buzludzha Peak, has always been a symbol of hope and courage that motivates him to continue the party tradition.
Zafirov's message was clear: unity, dialogue, and mutual understanding are the only path to real social change. Young socialist leaders were called upon to be active participants in this process.
